Mason Smith {Newborn/Hospital}

One of my oldest friends, Kelli,  became a mother this week.  We both played clarinet in 7th grade band and soon became good friends.  We weren’t the popular girls in school, but we were ok with that and always managed to laugh until it hurt. I always loved spending the night at her house because they had a 2 story house :)  and her mother is AWESOME.    Neither of us stuck with band past junior high, but we remained friends throughout high school.  Kelli is one of those people who only gets better with age.  I admire how Kelli carries herself and how considerate she is of other people’s feelings.  Over the years, we come in and out of each others lives, but somehow we are always able to pick up where we left off.  I’m so grateful that she is still someone I call a friend and that she has blessed me with her friendship.

With that said…

Here is baby Mason :)  Look at those lips !?  He was such a peaceful baby.

They already look like naturals.  When I left the hospital with Christian, I am pretty sure I had a mini panic attack.  I was on the brink of begging the nurses to come home with me!

The one thing I love about being a mom is that my kisses cure just about anything.  I love when Christian comes up to me with a “boo boo” and wants me to kiss it.

Then he jumps up and starts playing again.  It kinda makes you feel like a super hero :)

Kelli looks absolutely amazing for just giving birth – seriously.  Bear, you look fabulous too :)

I asked Kelli if she cried once they handed her Mason.  She said her and her husband, Bear,  just held him and cried for 30 minutes.  There is nothing like seeing your baby for the first time.  You spend 9 months wondering what he/she is going to look like – hair color, eye color, which features will be yours.  An ultrasound merely gives you a rough outline of your baby.  I still stare at Christian sometimes and I’m amazed he came from me.

Congratulations Bear, Kelli, and Snooki (their wiener dog).  I have no doubt you will make excellent parents.  Sometimes (a lot of times) it’ll feel overwhelming, but just remember only you know how to raise your kid.  People are too free with their parenting advice.  Trust your instincts…sometimes it’s all you have :)

Speaking of know-it-all moms, here is a funny quote from Tina Fey:

“There’s a Drunk Midget in My House! Ah, babies! They’re more than just adorable little creatures on whom you can blame your farts. Like most people who have had one baby, I am an expert on everything and will tell you, unsolicited, how to raise your kid!”
