Ahhh…What’s in a name?

So, I recently made the decision to change my name from Let’s Abraka Do This Photography to Cristal Sun Photography. It went down from 27 letters to 21 letters. Huh…that doesn’t seem like a significant change does it? It just looks so much shorter to me though…

If you were ever bored enough to wonder how I came up with the name Let’s Abraka Do This,  I’m about to tell you.  One night back in 2006, my {then} roommate Casey and I were flipping through the channels and landed on VH1’s spoof movie about 80’s movies. It was called “Totally Awesome.”

I will not be shocked if you do not remember this made for TV spoof movie.  To make a long story short, there is a line in the movie Chris Kattan’s character says…”Let’s Abraka Do This,”  and I just start laughing hysterically.  I’m sure if I watched it now I would question 2006 Cristal’s sense of humor.  In my defense though, I WAS with Casey which means a bottle of wine was probably close by.

So there you have it.  For whatever reason, that phrase stuck with me.

So, why did I decide to change my name?

1.  I genuinely felt like it was too long.  Even I got tired of typing it all out.

2.  I worried it would be hard for people to remember how to spell.

3.  I wanted my actual name to be associated with my work.

I know some of my friends really liked the name, but so far no regrets :)
